Artist’s Journey
"Looking at the paintings of Joanna Brzostowska you get an impression that you are surrounded by lush, vibrant vegetation, a vision that's absolutely breathtaking. It's a very feminine and accurate way of illustrating the beauty of our planet. Joanna is a contemporary artist. Her art is not about the realistic depiction of bunches of flowers, rolling hills and meadows or the bucolic wandering turkeys; she is using her paintings to share her feelings and her personal relationship with nature. Joanna speaks to us through her paintings. "Look at the beauty that surrounds us", she says, "here are the gorgeous remains of the natural world, that have not yet been poisoned by toxic waste or paved with cement. Look how bright the greenery is, how iridescent the orange is in the petals of those flowers - I am sending you a message using the play of the colors, I speak to you using dashes of paint in the buoyant and dynamic form of nature.
It is not important how we classify Joanna's art. It might be called impressionism, postimpressionism, a flirt with abstractionism or maybe even an action painting or a mosaic. What's essential is that the artist uses the splashes of color, the generous impasto (an area of thick paint or texture applied by putty knife or brush) on the good old canvas. She is not using any superficial forms of artistic expression, her art is an organic part of her, it is as close to nature as it gets. Joanna's art is alive with rich textures and a unique palette of colors. The composition is always open and set in modern Impressionism, harking back to Claude Monet and Władysław Podkowiński. Joanna cannot be grouped with other Polish Impressionists or Colorists. In her art one can find a simple and at the same time very competent art technique. Her artistic personality and great passion dominate the paintings.
Joanna has created her own artistic style; the vibrant colors, the freedom of expression, and the rich texture in her paintings make each of her pieces of art unique and recognizable."
